If everyone in the conversation of justice protestors is represented by a Venn diagram of overlapping circles, you would find The Activists, the looters, the rioters, the saboteurs, and the opportunists.

The Activists are cause and outcome driven. They have always done the work and are willing, at a moment’s notice, to funnel the discussion and energy towards achieving a clearly defined purpose. The Activists know their history. They are visually recognizable by their signs, direct approach, and their bullhorns. The Activists are highly organized, ethical and appeal to purpose and logic.

The looters are economically driven. They are simply profiteers masked by the protesting mob with self-interest as a priority. There are two types of looters: the need-driven looters and the greed-driven looters. Need driven looters seek a corner shop in search of cereal and diapers. Need-driven looters force a moral dilemma where necessity outweighs cause. Survival is the draw for need-driven looters. On the other hand Greed-driven looters are visually recognizable by the electronic equipment or expensive clothing they have in hand. They are ready at a moment’s notice to enrich personal coffers. They plunder and plunge, with no regard for property. Greed-driven looters are highly efficient, non-ethical and appeal to short-term gains.
